And that scene also begins with dialogue that seems like fun, while it’s also laying more groundwork. We meet Lance’s girlfriend Jody, who is pierced in every possible place and talks about her piercing fetish. Tarantino is setting up his payoff. When the needle goes into the heart, you’d expect that to be one of the most gruesome moments in the movie, but audiences, curiously, always laugh. In a shot-by-shot analysis at the University of Virginia, we found out why. QT never actually shows the needle entering the chest. He cuts away to a reaction shot in which everyone hovering over the victim springs back simultaneously as Mia leaps back to life. And then Jody says it was “trippy” and we understand that, as a piercer, she has seen the ultimate piercing. The body language and the punchline take a grotesque scene and turn it into dark but genuine comedy. It’s all in the dialogue and the editing.

Hi All,

Here is a screengrab from Road to Perdition one of the best and most influential cinematographers of all time shot this film Conrad L HALL. This film has such great cinematography the lighting was really effective a great selection of low key and pools of lighting.

Cinematographers website always post screen grabs of today, this one stood out to me with the use of wide space, you can clearly see the dynamics of the scene what kind of family they are. They have even used practicals to add separation and extra pools of light. The light is very clearly flagged so there is no falloff anywhere else, except just under the practical. This shows where Conrad L HALL wants our eyes to focus. With a deep depth of field we can see everything from the closet to the lens a off picture to the depressing dull weather outside. Clearly shot on film we can see the contrast and the latitude it produces. Here is some information about the film

listen beautiful girl. i don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but it’s only a matter of time. our paths will cross and life will change before we even realize it’s happening. you have to hold your head up and remember that whatever happens between now and then is meant to happen, good or bad.  it’s going to make you into the person you need to be for us to meet, and i can guarantee that once we finally do it will be the “right time”, even if it isn’t. and i can be sure that even if you leave, or you say that the fates aren’t on our side, i’ll know that the time will come where you will realize that fate is what was keeping us apart until we were ready to be in exactly the kind of love we were supposed to have.

it isn’t going to be perfect. it isn’t going to be easy. some nights you’ll wish we had never met and some nights i’ll cry myself to sleep wondering how things got so difficult. we’ll fight about things we promised we would never fight about and in the morning we will laugh because it was so stupid. sometimes we will go to bed angry and we will stay angry for weeks, but i know i’ll always find a way to make it up to you. i know this because hurting you is the same as hurting myself.

so hold that beautiful chin up and put on a brave face and know that every step is another step towards me. i’ll do the same. i’ll keep moving forward and i won’t concern myself with stupid thoughts like “i’ll be alone forever” because my heart knows it isn’t true. my heart has belonged to you since the day i was born, and everything that has happened has happened to bring you and i together.

i know it sounds cheesy, and cliche, but cliches are that way for a reason, and i have to listen to my heart when it whispers, “she’s out there. she’s waiting. and you’ll feel it long before you know it’s true”.
